Robert M. Phillips III

Biography

Robert M. Phillips III was a legendary criminal lawyer, both as a prosecutor and a defense attorney. He began his legal career in the Dallas County District Attorney's Office, where he tried hundreds of cases. He then relocated to Williamson County as the first assistant District Attorney and continued in that role for a number of years. Since the 1980s up to his untimely passing in 2021, Bob was a prominent defense attorney, defending the rights and freedom of thousands of people throughout Central Texas.

Bob was known for is big personality and his drive to get the best outcome for his clients. He was known throughout courthouses as an honorable, sometimes bombastic, and highly aggressive defense attorney.

Bob had several associate attorneys throughout the years, with the last and most long tenured being Douglas N. Ranney. In 2019, for the first time in his career, Bob made Mr. Ranney a named partner and thus was born Phillips & Ranney.

Bob was known throughout the Austin and Georgetown communities for his civic service, extreme adoration of baseball, and his work with Redeemer Presbyterian in service of the Almighty. In 2021 Bob unexpectedly passed away, leaving our physical presence but never leaving our memories.

Ranney Law LLC was formed after Bob's passing, yet we continue the same tradition of aggressive representation, seeking only the best results, with the highest possible ethics. I consider my practice a testament to Bob and hope that he is looking down from heaven favorably on our work.
